What CFM Means, and Why Portable Fans Never Print It

CFM is volume, not force
Cubic feet per minute is how much air a fan moves in a minute. A box fan might move a couple thousand; a personal unit moves a tiny fraction of that, and printing the real figure would not help anyone sell it.
Air speed at your skin is what you feel

Why volume is the wrong metric for a wearable

Small, fast fans make a high-pitched whine that is more annoying than a bigger fan at the same volume. If a listing brags about power and says nothing about decibels, assume the top speed is loud enough that you will not use it.
Run time claims hide the same trick
Hours are quoted at the lowest setting, and airflow there is often barely perceptible. Look for run time listed per speed; if only one number is given, it belongs to a setting you may never choose.
What no small fan can do
None of them lower room temperature. A fan cools by helping sweat evaporate, so once the air is hotter than skin, a bigger number means more hot air on you and faster dehydration, not more cooling.
Try the store test
If you can hold the fan, run it at the distance and speed you would actually use, and ask whether you would sit next to that sound for an hour. That test beats any printed spec.
The buying rule
Match the fan to the distance: neck and belt units for close range, a hanging tent unit for a small enclosed space, a real box or window fan for moving household air. Buying a personal fan to cool a room is buying the wrong tool.
